Cómo cuidar tus joyas artesanales para que te acompañen toda la vida

How to care for your handmade jewelry so it lasts a lifetime

At Rocío Jewels , our artisan jewelry store in Valencia , each piece is handcrafted in our jewelry workshop , with special attention to detail and using noble materials such as sterling silver , gold-plated silver , and borosilicate glass . These are unique jewels with a soul, designed to last for many years with proper care.

Here are some tips to keep your jewelry looking like new:

1. Avoid contact with chemicals

Perfumes, creams, hairsprays, cleaning products... can damage the shine of your jewelry, especially if it's gold-plated silver . We recommend applying them as a finishing touch, once you're ready.

2. Take them off to sleep, shower, or play sports.

Although our pieces are designed to accompany you in your daily life, continuous contact with water or sweat can accelerate the wear of gold plating or tarnish silver. Borosilicate glass , although very durable, can also be damaged by strong impacts.

3. Store them separately

To avoid scratches and tangles, it's best to store each piece of jewelry in its original pouch or box. Sterling silver can darken over time if exposed to air, so it's best to keep it in a closed, dry place.

4. Regular cleaning

  • Sterling silver : You can restore its shine with a special polishing cloth or a gentle homemade solution (warm water, a little mild soap, and a soft toothbrush).

  • Gold-plated silver : Clean only with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive products or excessive rubbing.

  • Glass : You can clean it with a damp cloth or, if it is dusty, with a slightly moistened cotton swab.

5. Take care of daily use

Our jewelry is durable, but it's not made for everything. Avoid wearing it while doing strenuous manual labor, in the pool, or in the ocean. This will preserve both the materials and the design.

If any of your pieces need a deep cleaning or restoration, we can help you restore them in our jewelry workshop in Valencia . Write to us or stop by the store, and we'll be happy to help you.
